There’s another benefit to omega-3, and it has to do with the reduction of symptoms of something called metabolic syndrome.
I was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, and it took me probably two or three years to figure out.
What is metabolic syndrome?
Well, it is a constellation or a collection of symptoms. It’s not actually a disease or anything like that, but when you pair together:
• High blood pressure
• Insulin resistance, and
• Fatty liver, somewhat typically diagnosable as belly fat, you start collecting fat around your belly, which can lead to obesity obviously being overweight.
This collection of symptoms can be construed together as metabolic syndrome.
Omega-3 can reduce symptoms of all the things I just mentioned.
• Can reduce blood pressure
• it can help with the insulin resistance
• it can help with fatty liver disease, and
• it can help with keeping your weight down.
it’s interesting that I say keep your weight down, taking omega-3 fatty acids, and people may wonder if I’m taking fat into my body, won’t that make me fat? In fact, the opposite is really true.
There are certain fats like Omega-3s and Omega-9s, the olive oil you put on your salad, that is not going to make you fat. That is a metabolic refreshment, that helps your body to actually burn the fat as energy, because fat, after all, is a source of energy. it’s really the primary source of energy for the long-term.
Marathoners, people who run a lot, and exercise for hours, are going to be consuming fat like crazy. Not the carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are for sprinters. You’re running 200 meters yes, you’re going to have that Snickers bar, and you’ll take off and you’ll burn that off in 15 seconds.
Omega-3 fatty acids are a metabolic refreshment, and it’s going to help you to reduce the symptoms of metabolic syndrome.
