Best Health Care in the World?

Sometimes, I just get almost mad. Most people who know me, know that I am pretty even tempered and genuinely happy. But sometimes…

I have a new friend. He is a mentor to me in the health, wholeness, wellness business. He’s been helping me with my heart disease and helping me to live quite healthily and optimally.

He holds a doctorate in pharmacology and he owns a pharmacy but you won’t find any pharmaceuticals there.

It’s a completely holistic ‘farm acy’. cool huh?

You can hear Brian on the radio 680 AM in and around Baltimore and on the internet at www.wcbm.com every Sunday morning 10 am to 12 noon. EST.

Now here’s what got me so (almost) mad.

We have the best acute care health system in the world. Politicians, aristocrats and celebrities from foreign countries who have socialized medical systems come here to get their MRIs done and to get their cancers treated.

They can afford it and they have to do what’s best for them. Granted. But their policy doesn’t hold true for their country.

In Canada you can wait 4 1/2 months for an MRI. Go figure. Just why are there so many clinics on our northern border? I just wonder if they take payment in Canadian dollars? Think about it.

So we have the best acute care system in the world. To a large extent infectious diseases have been taken care of. Now we find that degenerative diseases are what’s killing us. Preventing is easier than curing. And way more cost effective. Less painful too.

You may have heard the expression: It’s better to build a fence at the top of the cliff, than a hospital at the bottom.

How are we doing on preventative medicine?

Poorly. For example, doctors here still think they need to lower total cholesterol to 100 trying to stop heart attacks. Statistics prove that half the heart attacks that occur do so despite “normal cholesterol” ranges.

Cholesterol production, it may come as shock to you, is a normal biological function. There are many purposes for it. One of which is like the process that allows you to form a scab so you don’t bleed to death when you get a cut. I am stealing Brian’s thunder, but suffice it to say for now, that cholesterol prevents you from bleeding to death internally.

Brian has written an article that you can read here.

I have heard him speak on this subject on the radio and wish I had the transcripts. He’s eloquent, passionate and sometimes finds fun in the irony.

My take: You can’t treat a symptom and expect the disease to go away. Nutrition and lifestyle are what’s called First Line Therapy. That’s what I am about. Doing the right things to prevent disease.

What do doctors know about nutrition? Dr. Andrew Weil claims he had 30 minutes of instruction in medical school. Nutrition just isn’t taught to primary care physicians. It’s mainly symptoms and pill form treatments.

So can we safely say: “Precious little” unless your doctor is self educated or does what you and I can do with the internet.

Read… Learn… Grow… Change … and get healthy from the inside out.

As nutritional health supplement, emphasis on nutritional, I have put up two new products.

–healthy cholesterol support (a non-toxic way to ‘normalize’ your cholesterol levels using herbs.)

–Nattokinase (for plaque reversal – read Brian’s article first)
