What does Optimal Health Bridge have in common with Maryland Public Television?
Probably not too much. But we both have chosen green energy through Viridian. Why?

1. It’s free to switch
2. It’s a month to month contract, no long term commitment
3. 20% green energy
4. Cheaper than the Power Company’s supply prices
5. Delivery stays with the regular power company
6. Nothing changes with the billing, it’s seamless
7. It can be a money earner, if you want to earn an income or raise funds for your favorite charity.

As you know I am a health nut of sorts and so it won’t be strange for you to hear that I made a brash bold decision:

I changed my energy supplier to Viridian. And I did it for free!

If you have been paying attention, you may have heard commercials on the radio, or TV, or maybe a neighbor has talked to you about energy deregulation and what this means to you in the way of choice, savings, and environmental impact.

Deregulated States allow competition in the energy market which keeps the overall cost of energy at its lowest levels. Since deregulation in Maryland the last 4 years have shown a significant decrease in cost of energy-which means substantial annual cost savings to those who exercise their right to choose an alternative supplier like Viridian.

Most States have a minimum mandate for “green energy”, that is energy derived from renewable sources like wind, solar, etc. In my State of Maryland, that mandate for 2011 is 7.5%. The Federal Government has a current goal of 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2035. I chose Viridian because they are currently at 20% green, far exceeding what the current mandates are. They also have a 100% renewable green-e certified option.

Here is what you can do to exercise your right of choice:.

1.      Go to this website http://viridian.com/rsq3/

2.      If you like what you see, you can sign up as a customer without cost right on the spot. There is nothing to pay: you will just start to see savings on your bill. Quick and easy-less than 2 minutes

3.      Your local utility will make the switch seamlessly and they will still handle all billing and emergency calls. When you switch, you will receive a letter from your local utility thanking you for exercising your right to choose and that they will still handle delivery, billing, and emergencies.

4.      You are not tied into a long-term contract like most companies-if you are not satisfied with your savings and environmental impact you can switch back to your local utility easily and free.

5.      You will make a huge impact on the environment for future generations. Check out Viridian’s Sustainability Report for 2010

6.      Now that is the best of both worlds. If you have questions call Debbie at 443-465-4875. She has the answers you are looking for and can help you switch.

7.      Remember, if you don’t pick a supplier they will pick one for you, called “Provider of Last Resort” which will keep you in the highest current rates.

So take my advice and make the decision I made by choosing Viridian! -Garey Simmons

PS. I wanted to add a few more thoughts here. Some of my best friends are green freaks. I am not exactly in that category. I don’t always recycle. But, I love nature, mountain hikes, swimming in clean bodies of water.  As a fitness trainer, I cringe when I see people out jogging on busy roads knowing that all the air they are sucking in running alongside cars and buses is a terrible abuse of their lungs. All those polluntants have to be dealt with internally in the body, which means their livers are working overtime to deal with that deeply ingested pollution. Whether you are conservative or liberal, tea party or like green tea, all humans deserve a chance at life, a clean, healthful life.

And when it make fiscal sense to go green and save money at the same time, well, then you just tooted my horn!
